Abel Thomas House Bed and BreakfastThe Abel Thomas House sits on lovely 269 Regent Street in Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake, just a minute away from the well-known Angel Inn. The location is wonderful, being minutes away from the shops on Queen Street and within walking and biking distance of fabulous restaurants, wineries and the theater. The Peller Estates Winery is the closest, being a 20 minute walk down a path through a beautiful park. The streets are truly some of the prettiest around. Regent Street is also part of the route for the horse-drawn carriage rides. The house sits behind a classic white-picket fence amongst picturesque gardens and mature trees. Private parking is at the back of the house, and guests are able to sit outside on the patio or on the swing in the peaceful backyard. The outside of the house is extremely well maintained as well as the gardens. The Abel Thomas House offers three bedrooms, each meticulously clean and tastefully decorated, complete with ensuite bathrooms. The first is the blue room which offers a queen sized bed, the second the red room which also has a queen sized bed, while the third green room offers two twin beds. Each room has its own charm. There is also a lovely sitting room on the upper floor available for the guests to use. The hosts, Mary and Robin Scott, will welcome guest to their home with their exceptional hospitality. They are friendly and fun and love to offer recommendations on restaurants, wineries and other things to do around the town. They also have five year old Golden Retriever named Toby who lives in the owners' quarters and is also very friendly. Breakfast is an absolute delight. Mary cooks while Scott loves to serve the guest. Mary's breakfasts are simply amazing as she has cooking diploma from England. Not many bed and breakfasts offer gourmet three course breakfasts. She is also accommodating to any dislikes or food allergies. The menus will vary, but a typical breakfast consists of a starter course of baked peaches topped with homemade granola, vanilla yogurt and mango sorbet. The main course featured buttermilk pancakes with pure maple syrup, cream cheese scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. To finish, the dessert course was fresh blueberry muffins served with homemade jam. Breakfast is served promptly at 8:30am in the dining room and fresh brewed coffee is available from 7:30am onward. A small guest bar fridge is available for use in the dining room as well as wine glasses and the corkscrew. All in all a stay at Abel Thomas House is a pleasant experience and a peaceful weekend getaway. It offers everything and more for a mid-priced bed and breakfast, costing roughly $150 a night.
