Visiting Niagara Falls from Toronto has never been easier, now that the GO Train is providing weekend and holiday service between these two great destinations.

GO Transit is made up of a network of buses and trains which link Toronto to the surrounding regions in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Go Transit is Canada’s first interregional public transit system, and the only system of this kind in Ontario. Service began in 1967 and has continued to expand to new regions, the latest being Niagara Falls, Ontario. Niagara Falls is a popular tourist destination for its numerous attractions, events, and natural wonders, making an ideal stop for day trips and overnight stays.

GO Train Service from Downtown Toronto to Niagara Falls Begins in 2009

Currently in its test phase, the Toronto to Niagara Falls train began service in June 2009 and is scheduled to continue through Thanksgiving weekend, October 12, 2009. This current test phase is meant to gauge the amount of interest in this route. Already proving highly popular for weekend trips to Niagara Falls, GO Transit may negotiate to continue the service throughout the year and possibly expand the schedule to include weekday trains.

The Niagara Falls-bound GO train also operates on holidays including Canada Day, Civic holiday, Labour Day, and Thanksgiving.

GO Train Links Cities Between Toronto and Niagara

With trains departing from downtown Toronto’s Union Station, the Niagara-bound GO trains make stops along the way in Port Credit, Oakville, Burlington and St. Catharines, before arriving in downtown Niagara falls approximately two hours after departure from Union Station.

Niagara Falls Train Station Has Access to Public Transit for Tourist Destinations

The GO train stops at the Via Rail station in two blocks from downtown Niagara Falls. Located approximate 4 km from the Falls, Niagara Transit public buses stop directly outside the train station and stop at many tourist locations throughout the city. The Niagara Transit bus station is located directly across the street from the train station, as are taxi stands. All-day passes can be purchased for the Falls Shuttle and Niagara Transit for $6.00 per adult, and includes two children aged 12 and under per adult pass.

It is also possible to walk to popular tourist street Clifton Hill, located close to the Falls in approximately forty minutes.
